How would you describe your style of wedding photography?

I love storytelling. Telling stories of what really happened using a photojournalistic, documentary approach, because there’s nothing better than authenticity on a wedding day. But simply put its fine art candid photography of your wedding.

But I do think it’s a difficult question. By nature I’m constantly trying to improve and learn so I’d like to think that my style is constantly evolving. And that’s vital I think. The website should give you an idea of my style.

I DO NOT do posed shots of all the guests who wish at the wedding like a regular photographer. It really doesn’t make sense for you to hire me for that style of photos. In fact I recommend you get a regular studio photographer for those kinds of shots. I will gladly arrange for the regular photographer (in Kolkata) if you need me to do it.

How long have you been shooting weddings?

Over the last 3 years.

Where are you located? Do you travel for weddings?

I’m based out of Kolkata, India. Yes, I love to travel for weddings. Wanderlust has set in a few years ago.

Can appointments be arranged to meet with you and talk about our wedding?

Of course! Lets have a coffee, drink, coconut water. I’m close to Dum Dum Park. If you’re not in Kolkata, lets Skype!

Will you be shooting alone?

If I’m shooting in Kolkata, I sometimes bring an associate who will be shooting as well. This depends on availability of the assistant. If I’m shooting out of Kolkata, I don’t bring an associate unless you would specifically want a second camera. Let me add at this point that it always helps to have another person shooting who thinks like you. Pictures are far more wholesome.

Do you charge extra for travel?

Yes I do. I could arrange for my own flight tickets if you’d like. If you’re getting a better deal and booking my tickets for me then Indigo Airlines or Jet Airways would be ideal. Please avoid red eye or early morning flights.

As far as accommodation is concerned I would love to be as close to the action as possible so I request you to put me up. Stay need not be in an expensive hotel but request accommodation in not less than a 2 star please.

When will you arrive on our wedding day?

If your wedding is out of Kolkata, I would like to be there at least 4 hours prior to the start of any ceremony; this is purely to account for flight delays.

If your wedding is in Kolkata, I will be there and hour or 30 minutes before any function starts. Please please let me know what time the actual event begins as unnecessary waiting is extremely tiring and frustrating and sometimes affect the quality of pictures I take.

How does the booking process go?

My booking is on a purely first-come, first-served basis. You need to offer a 50% retainer fee/deposit to reserve your date. The remaining balance is due at least 1 week before your wedding day.

How long does it take to see my wedding pictures?

Delivery time varies depending on what month you get married. November through May weddings can expect to have their images within 6 weeks. June through October weddings will be delivered 4 weeks after the wedding. Because I shoot most of my weddings November through May, delivery time is longer during those months. This delivery time doesn’t include album delivery time.

How many pictures would I receive after your done with the editing?

It really depends on how long the ceremony is and how many things happen at it, but I promise 200 edited images but have never given anything short of 400-500 images so far for any wedding. This is a digital copy of the images not a printed album.

Do you offer prints, canvases, etc?

Yes. I can send you the details of the prints, quality of paper, framing costs, canvases, digital photo frames, online galleries, etc. Courier charges are extra.

How can we pay you?

I accept Cash. You could also do a wire transfer (Details of which I can send you later). I also have a PayPal account which could be used if you need.

What’s the deal with copyright? Can I print my own photos? Intellectual property rights?

Good question and do ask this question of all photographers! I hold the copyright to images as the creator of the images as the artist. Expect full reprint rights and files on DVD from me.

All photos are absolutely yours to keep, and you’re welcome to create your own prints if you prefer.

Lastly yet very importantly, is the person who has been answering these questions be the person who will do your wedding photography?

Yes. It will be me, Joy Banerjee.
